  Stories about 'Abdu'l-Bahá
Responding to a question concerning the word “obey” in marriage ceremony

‘Abdu’l-Bahá came to this house about 10 o’clock and He, Mrs. Ford, Dr. Fareed, and Mr. Latimer, Jeffrey and I lunched together. I wish all He said might have been written down! I told Him that many people objected to having “obey” in the marriage service among the promises made by the woman. He answered that it should not be there, as God intended the man and the woman to be one and the use of the word obey assumes two. He was profound, joyous, amusing! After luncheon He went upstairs to rest.
