Stories about 'Abdu'l-Bahá

Agnes: April 19 – ‘Abdu’l-Bahá will stay at Parsons’ home

Anges Parsons' Diary
April 19, 1912
Washington, DC

Today — April 19th has come a telegram from the Master [‘Abdu’l-Bahá] to Jeffrey saying[:] “Letter received. Grateful. For your sake myself and translator come your house. signed Abbas.”

Mirza Sohrab told me over the telephone that he had also just rec[eive]d a telegram saying they would leave Sat[urday] 8 A.M. but not to let it be generally known. ‘Abdu’l-Bahá has had a very appreciative reception in N[ew] Y[ork]. I cannot, however, write of the meetings and interviews as I must begin tomorrow to record the details of His visit here.

Before Jeffrey wrote his note of invitation to ‘Abdu’l-Bahá he said to me[:] “Did not ‘Abdu’l-Bahá say he would stay with us?” I ans[were]d[:] “Yes.” “How do you account for His not coming?” At that moment a thought flashed through my mind and I replied[:] It has just come to me that undoubtedly in the Orient a man’s invitation would be thought necessary, etc etc .
