'Abdu'l-Bahá's travels

Baltimore

Originally the Bahá’ís of Baltimore had expected ‘Abdu’l-Bahá to visit shortly after His arrival in America. The Baltimore Sun even announced that He would speak at the Unitarian Church on April 21. But ‘Abdu’l-Bahá didn’t make plans that far in the future, so some of the Baltimore Bahá’ís went to New York to see Him.

Abdu’l-Bahá left Washington, DC, on the morning of November 11 and got off the train in Baltimore, arriving at 11 am. After a short rest at the Hotel Rennert, He gave a talk at the Unitarian Chapel. In the hall, which had been filled well before ‘Abdu’l-Bahá arrived, sat the Bahá’ís, professors from John Hopkins University, and many business and professional people. The News American newspaper reported, in three paragraphs, the parts of the talk about the unity of religion, but ignored His comments about the talk He had given in Washington at the Jewish synagogue.
